Faith-Based Blog and Christian Encouragement

Bible Verse of the Day

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

If you have not read the previous post, Living My Silent Life-Part One, I strongly encourage that you read it first.

The Shocking News…

After the results were revealed, my parents were uncomfortably shocked to hear that I lost my hearing and that I was deaf. An audiologist advised them to discuss the matter with the social worker and my doctor.

When my parents brought me home, they angrily fought and argued about me and my hearing problem. They blamed each other for what happened to me. My mother emotionally called my grandparents about what was going on, they were also surprised and confused why I lost my hearing. My parents and grandparents cried a lot and talked about their concerns.  They did not understand what happened to me and my hearing problem, my mother could not figure out how nor what caused my deafness. My parents felt that they failed me, they thought that they were being punished by God since I became deaf.

A few days later, my parents were still struggling to deal with my hearing loss. They did not speak with each other for a long time.

…Heartbroken…

My parents expressed their deep concerns with our families including my adorable cousins, uncles, and aunts about my hearing loss. They were speechless, and did not know what they could plan for me and my life, they were worried sick of my future and my hearing loss.

A few more frustrating and worrying days passed, and my parents and our families shared their confusing questions with each other about my hearing loss, they never had learned sign language before. They did not know much about Deaf Culture or schools for the Deaf. They thought that I was mentally retarded because of my hearing loss, but it was not true.

My grandmother was a loving and caring person, she couldn’t help but was very upset that I lost my hearing, she was worried about my childhood life and future. She was not sure what to do with me in future. She knew that she could not predict what happened to me. So she prayed to the Lord Christ about my hearing loss, she asked God – Why you made Joyce deaf?

My Mother’s Final Realization…

While my mother worked at the hospital, she was a licensed registered nurse. She had no clue on what caused my hearing loss. She was trying to think hard about where it came from.

My mother’s friend and co worker talked to her about me. She told my mother to not blame herself for my hearing loss, and to not worry too much.

The doctor came toward my mother, he asked her about my hearing loss. Curiously, he wanted to know what happened to me and my hearing. My mother shared some information, he figured out what caused my deafness. The doctor asked her if she had taken Rubella shot or not. Ohhh boy! Oh no…no… My mother did not have a chance to get the shots before her pregnancy progress. The doctor questioned her curiously and figured out how it caused. He thought that my hearing loss were caused by my seizure and high fever, however, my mother suspected that the German Measles (Rubella) might be the one.
Finally, my mother realized that the Rubella aka German Measles might be the cause…
